Kathrin Steinberg
Head of Research
Dr. Kathrin Steinberg is Head of Research at the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), an impact organisation running the world's leading certification programme for responsibly farmed seafood.
The team that Kat is heading focusses on conducting research, as part of standard setting and revision or as a result of integrity issues related to the standard, internal and external knowledge dissemination, and addressing industry needs and fostering academic collaboration, including the utilisation of ASC data for research and publications.
Before working for ASC, Kat has conducted her PhD with Kiel University, focussing on pikeperch in recirculating aquaculture system after working for 2 years for the German Development Aid Agency GIZ in fisheries and aquaculture.
She studied Marine Technologies for her undergrad, followed by an MSc in Sustainable Aquaculture from Stirling University. Kat has been a Board member with the European Aquaculture Society (EAS) for 6 years, plus 2 years on the EAS Student Group Board. She is a volunteer swim instructor and lifeguard, plays underwater hockey and raises two boys.
